How to playblast h264 in Maya without Quicktime installed

0

Since April last year, Trend Micro have been urging Windows users to uninstall Quicktime because they had found two major vulnerabilities in the software and Apple had announced they would no longer be issuing security updates for it. This poses a problem for animators like myself since this particular piece of software is what enables us to playblast in the highly efficient h.264 codec.

To get the codec back after having uninstalled Quicktime, simply start the installation process again (the program can still be downloaded on Apple’s website) but at the point of where it asks the setup you want, choose “Custom“.

Then make sure to uncheck the “QuickTime Player” option. The player is the part that has the security vulnerabilities. The Essentials part contains the codec.

Automatic Lypsync, Rhubarb, Allosaurus, PAPAGAYO and FFMPEG

Found this great tool as a replacement for Papagayo as a lipsync tool. Rhubarb is a tool that analyzes phonetical english and creates a lipsync text, tsv, json or xml file with timestamps and mouth positions for animation.

Demo

Also tryout ALLOSAURUS another great tool for autolipsync:

PAPAGAYO NG

This is an open source update to PAPAGAYO from lost marbles. This version integrates both RHUBARB and ALLOSAURUS to its toolset.

How to build and organize a file for Background Design: animation pipeline tips

0

Can’t even remember the number of times that I asked people to organize their BG setup properly for compositing, I even had to clean them up after finding a lot of trashy layers. Well someone (https://twitter.com/foxorian)did this amazing guide and it’s a must for any production regarding the size.

For added context: this is the BG design used in the 2nd and 3rd image, so you can see the whole composite
Extra: Using smart objects to easily edit/paint multiple instances of the same object in a scene all at the same time. Or: working smarter not harder
Example: This BG has only about 5-6 different trees total, free transformed / flipped to create variation. As smart objects the total work is reduced and it doesn’t cost me much effort to make it this way in the design stage.

Thunderbird trouble adding new account

0

Solution for “Trouble adding new account” with thunderbird.

If you’re getting the message “Trouble adding new account” when you try to setup your new email account with thunderbird, the problem might lie on the appdata folder having the account you tried to setup already there but with non functioning settings, therefore when thunderbird tries to add that account (even if it’s not displaying on your account list) it thinks that the account is already there.

The solution is to remove the account folder from the appdata path for thunderbird.

  1. Go to START/RUN and write %appdata%
  2. Once in your appdata folder, go to “AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\”
  3. At profiles look for for the folder that contains this folder “ImapMail”
Open Imap Mail

4. Open ImapMail and delete the folder and .msf files that have your accountname in it. Example “mail.yahoo.com” and “mail.yahoo.com.msf”

5. Restart thunderbird and try to register the account again with the proper settings.

Recover lost files from Buffalo NAS (raid, EXT, XFS, BTRFS, RAW)

0

Well so it’s been two years since my NAS cannot connect to the network anymore, the Buffalo support was useless and the NAS is pretty much a brick by now.

The two drives are working perfectly so I decided to make a backup out of them however the raid system Buffalo uses is something that you can’t access even with a SLAX (USB linux) so after digging for a while, found a great utility called “ReclaiMe Pro”.

You can find it over at: https://pastebin.com/hbDy1kCb

ReclaiMe Pro Build 1872 is perfect for our purposes.

Steps:

Connect one of your Raid Hard Drives to your computer (Via Sata USB adapter or to the Sata port of your computer’s Hard Drive Bay)

Scan the drives (select Proceed to list all your connected Drives):

After the drives are listed, select your MD Raid disk and click on Start Scan:

On the Start Scan Settings, select the templates NAS filesystems

Then click on Start

The program will do a quick scan of everything in your drive, after that is done you can select the files you want to recover and then click START COPYING:

This will copy the selected files to a folder on your computer’s drive and therefore backup everything you selected on your RAID drive.

Good luck!

Watchtower Autosync folders with image sequences, psd files and assets to your Premiere and Ae project

Great utility (a bit expensive thou 25+VAT which makes it $29 US) for autosync folders within premiere and after effects and import batch sequences (A functionality missing in Premiere for which I wrote a workaround a few years ago https://cocoalopez.com/blog/?p=2892 )

But this tool keeps everything in Sync without the need of reloading.

Folder templates creation for Windows and Mac (PostHaste)

Previously I used text2folders a small utility from donationcoder to create templates for folder creation.

Just found this free utility that uses templates and wildcards to create the same folder structure and add template files as well (psd, ae, etc…).
