{"id":4230,"date":"2023-12-04T11:45:33","date_gmt":"2023-12-04T17:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cocoalopez.com\/blog\/?p=4230"},"modified":"2023-12-04T11:46:06","modified_gmt":"2023-12-04T17:46:06","slug":"procreate-dreams-quick-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocoalopez.com\/blog\/?p=4230","title":{"rendered":"Procreate Dreams &#8211; Better stay dreaming&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I&#8217;ve been a <a href=\"http:\/\/procreate.com\">procreate <\/a>user for several years ever since the first betas and being an animator myself naturally I had to try Dreams out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In one word, <strong>&#8220;disappointment&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The few things that I liked:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The lasso editing for the timeline and intuitive playback controls,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the drag and throw to play the layer instantly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zoom management of the timeline with fingers is pretty cool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Video layer works great<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All the bad:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clunky UI, nothing like procreate, too much text everywhere, no intuitiveness, Giant icons that take up almost 1\/3 or the workspace which you cannot hide BTW.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hacky use of filters as track settings (If you want opacity for your track you don&#8217;t have a setting for it so you must add a filter and then set the opacity)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flipbook overlay can&#8217;t be hidden, as soon as you hide it it goes back to the timeline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UI duplication, clicking on Close flipbook and done do the same<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No per frame timeline settings, basically you&#8217;re left with HH,MM,SS for your project settings, (As if you were going to animate 1 Hour of animation on an ipad app)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No instances, everything works on frames so flipbook&#8217;s onion skin is useless if you already timed your drawing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No custom sizes for project presets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No brush editing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no canvas flipping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No lasso or selection tools or even move tools on drawing mode (all procreate should be here or at least the best of it)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No page frame flipping, it would be cool to see two three or even four fingers flipping between frame as if you were with real paper, curved motion (wishful thinking here).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And many many more\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I would recommend to wait until it&#8217;s polished, BTW I haven&#8217;t explored the export format but it seems they use transparent PNG and JSON as their export so I see it as an interesting candidate if it&#8217;s polished to put on a professional pipeline.
