This includes, but is not limited to Intel i9 and AMD &#8216;Ryzen Threadrippers&#8217;.<br>This includes clicking any area of the user interface or moving objects, animation playback&nbsp;(FPS, or frames per second) in the viewport.<br>When trying to move an object from point A to point B, it may take two &#8211; ten seconds to perform the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Environment:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>AMD Ryzen CPUs.<\/li><li>AMD Threadripper.<\/li><li>Intel i9 CPUs.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Causes:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Includes, but is not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Under certain PC hardware configurations, the multicore CPU&#8217;s cache memory access may become bottle-necked when performing certain calculations. The CPUs may run fast as long as they can hit the data they need directly (in the cache), but can become stalled when hitting a &#8220;cache miss.&#8221;.<\/li><li>Outdated video card drivers.<\/li><li>Power management options in Windows may be switching between a slower, low-power onboard graphics processing unit (GPU) and a higher-performance video card.<\/li><li>Large 3ds Max scene files (more than 1 gigabyte) with many objects and high-resolution textures.<\/li><li>High-resolution&nbsp;monitor settings or multiple monitors connected to laptop docks.<\/li><li>Corrupted scene geometry.<\/li><li>Dense, high poly objects.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Solution:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The solution may require one, or a combination of the following to resolve:&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check the scene for corrupted scripts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go to the Script Controller entry in the &#8216;See Also&#8217; section below to check 3ds Max for corrupted scripts that could affect performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turn off Deferred Plug-in Loading<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In 3ds Max, go to the Customize &gt; Preferences menu.<\/li><li>In the General tab, deselect &#8220;Load Plug-ins When Used.&#8221;<\/li><li>Close 3ds Max, then restart the program.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/help.autodesk.com\/sfdcarticles\/img\/0EM3g000001DHSf\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disable Hyperthreading (for Intel CPUs) or Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT, for AMD CPUs)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it may seem contradictory, disabling Hyperthreading (for Intel CPUs) or SMT (simultaneous <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">multithreading, for AMD CPUs) may actually speed up 3ds Max performance.<br>Note: The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.arnoldrenderer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arnold renderer<\/a> takes advantage of both Hyperthreading and SMT, so disable these settings only if getting the best performance from Arnold isn&#8217;t necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Set a Qt Environment variable in Windows<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In some instances, 3ds Max&nbsp;UI improvements may occur by setting a Qt (UI) environment variable in Windows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In Windows (8 or 10), go to the Windows Search bar.<\/li><li>Type:&nbsp;System. (It should bring up the choice of &#8220;System (Control Panel).&#8221;<\/li><li>Press Enter.<\/li><li>In the System menu, in the bottom-left of the menu, click the Advanced Systems Settings item. A System Properties menu will appear.<\/li><li>Click Environment Variables. The Environment Variables menu will appear.<\/li><li>Under System variables, click New to bring up the New System Variable menu.<\/li><li>Under Variable name, enter:&nbsp;QT_OPENGL<\/li><li>Under Variable value, enter:&nbsp;Angle<\/li><li>Click OK in to save the changes.<\/li><li>Under System variables, click New to bring up the New System Variable menu.<\/li><li>Under Variable name, enter:&nbsp;QT_ANGLE_PLATFORM<\/li><li>Under Variable value, enter any one of these variables:&nbsp;warp,&nbsp;d3d9&nbsp;or&nbsp;d3d11. (Note: Save only one of these at a time. See this Microsoft article for recommended screen settings:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/14108\/windows-7-change-screen-resolution#:~:text=To%20change%20your%20screen%20resolution,want%2C%20and%20then%20click%20Apply.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Change your screen resolution<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Examine the scene for corrupted geometry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In certain cases, having corrupted scene geometry can impair viewport performance. Try the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Use the Subobject: Vertex &gt; Delete Isolated Vertices feature in case geometry vertices have become detached and are located far from the base object.
